Daily Loss Limit Calculator
No win-rate guesses. Enter your account size and daily loss limit and see the hard math: exactly how many losing trades until you are locked out for the day — and how fast one oversized trade burns your whole day. Works for FTMO, FundingPips, FundedNext, The5ers and any account with a daily loss limit.
How many trades can you lose before breaching your daily limit?
Divide your daily loss limit in dollars by your risk per trade. On a $100,000 account with a 5% daily limit ($5,000) and 1% risk per trade ($1,000), you have five losing trades of room before you are locked out for the day. That single number — limit ÷ risk per trade — tells you exactly how close to the edge you are trading, and it doesn't depend on any win-rate guess. Double your size to "make it back" after a loss and the room drops to two; a revenge trade at three times your size leaves just one.
Why "how many trades of room" is the number that matters
Prop firms don't fail you for a bad strategy — they fail you for one bad day. A daily loss limit is a hard floor, and the only question that counts is how much room it gives you at your position size. Your win rate changes, volatility changes, and your emotions change, but the arithmetic of limit ÷ risk per trade does not. It shows whether you have any margin left for a trade you'll regret — and almost every blown challenge is a single oversized, emotional trade that spent a whole day's buffer in one click.
What risk per trade is safe for a prop firm challenge?
A common guideline is to size so you survive at least four or five consecutive losses inside your daily limit, and to set your personal limit below the firm's stated limit. On a 5% daily limit that means roughly 1% risk per trade, which leaves five trades of room. See our recommended prop firm risk settings and how to set a daily loss limit in MT5.
How do you stop yourself from breaching the daily limit?
You can't predict volatility and you can't count on discipline after a loss — which is exactly why the limit has to be enforced, not just calculated. TradeNRisk monitors your live MT5 account and automatically locks it, closing your positions, the instant your daily loss limit is reached — before a breach instead of after. It is the same daily loss limit these firms use, except it stops you in the moment, when willpower fails.
Don't just measure the limit — have it enforced
Auto-lock your MT5 account on your daily loss limit with the Risk Manager plan ($25/month). One prevented breach pays for more than a year of TradeNRisk.
